Best Period Art Films
Films made with the primary intention of creating quality cinema (as opposed to selling tickets) are often considered "art" films -- especially if the subject matter and filmmaking sytle are particularly literary or artistic. Films set in a past time period which pay special attention to the detailed portrayal of that period, in setting, mood, and general impression, are excellent and rewarding examples of this "artistic" style, although many of them required large studio backing and anticipated box office success to produce.
